Index note talk slides

  • Presenter tried his usual to present the content in these slides as accurately as was possible during the preparing of his presentation, and does not cover all points-of-view of opinions
  • Take it with a pinch of salt, for what it may serve as an approximate guide, also not all is in literal sense, but has metaphorical associations
  • Definitions may appear vivid, for what it may appear, each person has its own understanding for which word means what, but for most part, we are indoctrined with same definitions, but work in isolation can easily provide more self-generated understanding, and lift the external driving forces for the mind
  • I had to write it down, as mind forgets and it can be hard to recall

We are sentient beings with a complex sentient ’machinery’: our own brain, body, and whatever surrounds us ”Mind is a computer, but a conscious one”

  • Here, machinery does not equate to metal machines
nor computer to a digital computer, but a more nuanced definition which fits with both the definitions of complex human form and traditional machine or computer as it was coined
  • Definitions are redefined as we progress in the world
  • In research there are new things, and correctly logically naming them is crucial for its long term robustness for this structure of knowledge, but not necessary
  • E.g. Structure of languages have also evolved: e.g. This one, which is English, and often offer easy understanding with compressibility such that the sum of two entities is logical result as combination of its words
  • In similar manner, it can be analogously expanded : which makes up for the ”How to think vastly”
  •
  •

Universe

  • Its a free world
  • devoid of any barriers to thinking
  • Research may involve going beyond the ethical boundaries that are there to achieve something that is bound to be there in this universe
  • decision agreed as a collective, say throughout the species
for e,g, dual use technology research, research which crosses ethical boundaries for greater good, etc
  • A concept of universe as :
  • Universe has static laws, i.e. laws don’t change with time and place

What is research

  • Dictionary:“the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions.”
  • ChatGPT4:”Research in fields such as mathematics, algorithms, and science involves the systematic exploration and analysis of theories, materials, and data. This process aims to establish verifiable facts, resolve complex problems, and develop new theories or algorithms, often through a combination of empirical studies, experimental design, theoretical modeling, and computational testing.”
  • (re)search = (again)searching for knowledge in vast universe
much like searching for gold on the Earth’s crust in mines,
or collecting them into the bag of articles
  • Research = generating novel knowledge
  • There is all information, but core of it is knowledge based,
  • Knowledge generates information
  • Knowledge is an information which is mapped from the laws of the universe and is always true given as it is (e.g. Knowledge A under stated conditions B)
  •

Which research

  • In context of
  • Personal: personal endeavours, curiosity, ..
  • Collective group: goal as a group, ..
  • Society : solution to adversity, need, service of people for better life and existence
  • Usually nowadays, research is a part of society, supported by society for common benefit of all
but as an independent spirit, nothing should stop one from exploring their interests, as long as they do not interfere with other’s existence in an adverse manner
  • Global: for e.g. artificial intelligence, or crisis research for hazards such as solar storms and climate change,
  • Humans can think through possibilities and feasibility of a research according to their skillset by using intuition and mental processing
  • More concrete steps can be written as a standard practice of proposal plan
  • balance between what is possible and what is needed

Exploration : breath and depth

  • Structure of entire known knowledge can be constructed
    from researched ideas
  • Sometimes research can be just done
by sitting and thinking, with help of brain
  • But other times involves manipulating
    other objects like experimental apparatus,
    controlling governing phenomenon, etc.
  • Ultimately, research is stored in a common
    repository
whether it belongs to a person, community,
or all humanity, or among all species,…
  • And its application of generated research
  • E.g. Applied research

Collaborative research

Applying research

  • Not all possible research need to be turned into practice
  • Initially, there may seem a vast limitation of resources for any research to be useful for the community, but as far as we know, there always needs a ’seed’ : funding, information, knowledge, idea, etc. To build it up on.
  • But for some kinds of research, everything is built already into the environment, ready to deploy, for e.g. Laptops and GPUs, for say AI research.

Drawing parallel words: inspiration

  • Humans learn from nature
  • E.g. Bird – plane, computer – brain, …
  • Definitions can be analogously mapped from one discipline to another for the sake of understanding
  • Allows access to multidisciplinary research without creating multiple copies of same universe in mind each with different variation: say one for physics, one for chemistry, one for bio, and so on all the things that there are
  • So mental memory is fused together, so all knowledge can be accessed easily without much thinking
  • Augmenting the reality in front of the eyes with imagination can also help make sense of surroundings
  • For e.g. augmenting navigational trajectories as you walk already provides the next steps you will take and how the obstacles will move,

Maths: Variables and dimensions

  • Space can be formed of anything
  • E.g. space of whole numbers, space of cups,
  • It demonstrates the reach of the mind
and in Bayesian way, distributions can be obtained
  • E.g. X as the space of all the cups
  •
  • A variable can be scalar, vector, matrix, etc
  • Scalar : Can be visualized as a point along a line
  • Vector: a direction in n-dimensional,
  • Matrix: as image, which is an single (mxn)-dimensional point
  • Whatever it is, is seen as a point in some dimensional space.
  • Quite useful in neural networks (remember that our brains are one), and in AI CNNs detecting objects as center point which is analogous to concept of it existing in space, and in humans, it is assigned meaning to conscious sphere (somehow),
  • I.e. activity of an neuron as indicator of an detection: e.g. Jennifer Aniston neuron.

Research vs Discovery

  • What is the difference between research and discovery
  • ChatGPT4:” In summary, while research is a planned and structured process aimed at gaining new knowledge, discovery is the act or process of uncovering or revealing something that was not previously known.”
  • E.g. Newton discovered law of gravitation,
  • How did he (or those like him) realized something fundamental from the very obvious that no human has ever ignored
  • I mean, how did he separate a conceptual idea in imagination from the reality, which to be representative of the version of a law in reality, at this point in history
  • Ofc, Einstein updated the theory
  •
  • Research digs deeper
  • Uncovers links with the fundamental things which are easier to ‘see’ , ‘see’ as in through the mind (not literally see)
  • Literal thinking is good, but some things just cannot be said in words, so metaphors help in communicating
  • Easier for newbies to learn complex stuff, due to discovered clarity, simplicity, and lack of confusion,
  •
  •
  •

Some other thoughts

  • as collaborative species, we are advancing quite fast (fast is a relative term, although..), its 2024, unlike 2015, or 2000, or 1960s
  • Whats possible then is still possible now (for e.g. moon astronaut landing) , but whats possible today was not possible back then (for e.g.
  • lots of growth has happened with many PhDs and researchers, scientists in the world,
  • More than to wrap the head around, if you look at all the fields and all science and all growth, fortunately beings evolve mentally as well with higher level of learned intelligence to understand entire Earth as a dot as seen from Mars
  • Tremendous unseen potential is happening now (as usual)

What makes life great?!

The experience of mind, or thats what life is..
