Arctos Robot ARM – Build Day 1
Index note cycloid gears, NEMA magnets, tool list
- Got arctos kit, parts are printed, see assembly guide , I started with an older version which was first to appear in the link, but soon it was corrected to proper version that I have printed : https://arctosrobotics.com/assembly-manual-0-2-9-beta/
- Further instructions are at : though there can be more questions about it :
https://arctosrobotics.com/docs/#asin - Assembled base, cycloid gear 1, and cycloid gear 2
- NEMA motor, requires magnet attachment, requires superglue, and something to hold magnet in proper place, however, once its done the rest of the things seem straightforward except how wiring is routed, also need to test nema separately using software before
- Couldn’t find 2 washers for the belt pulley, maybe not required
- Ignored nuts in the base, they were impossible to hold in place, partly because I was just starting with it, and also the print needs cleaning there, I don’t have proper tools, or curved, neither camera to see how it is, but only screws seem to fit
- Need the base plank with screws 4x M8 25mm, and drill to make M8 holes (also need to mark the dimensions on plank)
- Screwdriver set is incomplete, need proper hex for various sizes
- Cycloid gear 1 might have an issue, I don’t remember when the cycloid gears were put before enclosing, were they aligned properly, not sure how it should work, so have to check, or just open and close it, though requires manual effort which can be risky, better to use tools
- Cycloid gear 2 is not closing, the print has it tight , and rods are not going it, or at least it require much force, even jumping on it doesn’t help, neither hammering at reasonable loud noise, there might be risk of PLA fracturing, maybe, if I continue to hit it intensely
- Need clamp pressurizer which can be cranked up to compress
- Also need it for opening, as delicate soft opening is not possible using hands, and requires something different

Day 1 progress:

Also, first time I use the electric screwdriver, which was a breeze, apart from mechanical handling of rigid PLA parts. So I also need gloves to handle this sharp rigid plastic. Apart from that I had to move around finding the proper screwdriver heads, I figured I can bring the ones I have at home, to see if they fit, or buy new ones.
