Magic,
Index note card trick; determinism; "I read my own blog"
Couple of weeks ago, a guy showed me magic, and it was not a trick, as we think of. He told me to think of a card, at first I thought 7 of something, then I changed to an unknown card not in the deck, but suddenly I chose King of Hearts. Then he shuffled the deck, asked me to split the deck, and asked a unrelated third person on the table to say a number, she said 3, and I flipped 3 cards over, and third card was the King of Hearts.
Since I couldn’t see any foul play, I thought maybe entire universe is deterministic and maybe he could tap into the actions that lead to it, because how could this be possible, we are curious beings that would like to know how things work in general in this universe.
There are multiple theories I could think on, first is, did he mind control me into forcing me to think of the card that was bound to happen, given that she would say the number that was bound to be said, and the way he shuffled, and the state of it before. I was a bit ambitious and I chose a King, and I usually have a big heart so I chose heart, and chose King of Hearts.
I told him its beyond me, despite saying that I believe time doesn’t exist as in a way that time travel is not possible as kids usually think, unless you think of just passing time as time travel. Anyways, this event stuck to me. Maybe its normal for people to do such kind of thing. Being a science student makes me caged in the boundaries that there are for thinking that prevents me to manifest anything beyond. But maybe thats me looking down on myself, and there is somethings to know about universe as we grow.
But other thought that comes to my mind, is my thoughts are not my own, given certain constraints (of survival), our minds are fixed in way of thinking, and (people usually will not believe, heck they may not be even able to read this blog, as in this blog will never reach the people whom it is not meant to reach). But in this sole existence, this universe somehow exists with us in it.
So what I was saying that, our thoughts are not really our thoughts but a projection of surroundings, (both in memory of our brain), and surrounding future and past (like a bubble), but maybe its due to certain dynamics and some other reason. All I know that despite concrete things, the thing that simply could explain is the deterministic nature of the universe, but when one starts believing in it, it gives away its way of free will, and thinks universe does all…, and it feels true, despite it might not be the real scenario. Its just hard to solo understand the universe with the single mind there is. Ofc. in the magic of mind card revealing above, there were 3 beings actively involved, with some audience sitting around the table. As a person, I couldn’t think of asking anything to the magician, who says he has been practicing it for 15 years. Well, what I have been doing for 15 years, is studying all science (and forgetting it along the way because life). And its not the first time I have felt something beyond, my own conscious thing itself is unexplainable to me, I simply acknowledge its existence (just like gravity, consciousness exists in beings … that are complex but maybe its could be simpler for simpler, ..) , but by time as I age and grow, I also seem to lose my imagination which I had in my younger years, due to focusing on concreteness of the world and limited things become possible.
In recent years, I felt more of a force of my mind itself, my head feeling heavy with thoughts,so how do actually feelings work its also a source of curiosity.
But in above event, how did the universe turn out to be what I anticipated, and how did one had the confidence to achieve it?
Free will or not and how its all linked perplexes my mind (some times, most times I’m just a normal person doing other things).
